It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the “Laser Spectroscopy and Chemical Physics” Laboratory !
Our research group primarily focuses on the cutting-edge research in inter-disciplinary areas involving experimental Laser Spectroscopy and Chemical Physics. We use different types of lasers (including cw and pulsed lasers) to understand how light interacts with molecules giving rise to various spectroscopic signatures and provides a fascinating way to probe molecular rotational-vibrational levels.
We use and develop new-generation ultra-sensitive diode and quantum cascade laser-based optical spectroscopic techniques such as Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy, Cavity-Enhanced Absorption Spectroscopy and 2f-Wavelength Modulation Spectroscopy to study the high-resolution gas-phase molecular spectroscopy, gas-phase kinetics & dynamics, sensing of trace molecules and their isotopic species pertinent to the environmental science and non-invasive medical diagnostics. In addition, our group is actively working in the area of Nano-Photonics exploiting Quantum Weak Measurements, Evanescent-Wave Ring-down Spectroscopy and Surface Plasmon Resonance for fundamental understanding of spin-orbit interaction of light, optical beam shifts, photonic spin Hall effect and evanescent waves with its potential applications in quantum materials and metrology along with for studying the interfacial dynamics in condensed phase molecules. Moreover, our team is actively involved in many innovative research projects of the Technical Research Centre (TRC) at S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences.

Prof. Manik Pradhan, FRSC, FInstP

Dr Manik Pradhan is currently a Professor at S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata, India. He obtained his PhD from the group of Professor Andrew Orr-Ewing in 2008 from the University of Bristol, England, having been awarded a prestigious Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Fellowship. Subsequently, he moved to the University of Cambridge, England for his postdoctoral work (2008-2010) in the group of Professor Richard Lambert after receiving the Isaac Newton Trust Postdoctoral Fellowship from Trinity College, England. Hereafter, he came to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (2010-2011) in the group of Professor Richard Zare in Stanford University, USA. He also worked as a Visiting Research Assistant (2004-2005) at the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences (IAMS), Academia Sinica, Taiwan. more...
